The Arboretum is South Barrington’s newest and most exciting place to shop, dine and play. The open-air center is named for the lush treescapes and gardens of its landscape, and for the large tree farm that formerly stood on the site. An upscale mix of shops, restaurants and entertainment venues includes the country’s first Village Road Show Gold Class Cinemas, the ultimate cinema experience and a new way to go to the movies; L.L.Bean’s first Midwest outdoor gear and apparel store and the incomparable Pinstripes Bowling/Bocce/Bistro.

It’s all less than a mile from the four-way interchange at I-90 at the intersection of Illinois Routes 59 and 72. Stores include Arhaus, Anna Shea Chocolates & Lounge, Chico’s, Coldwater Creek, Jos. A. Bank, Ann Taylor LOFT, Victoria’s Secret, DSW, Panera Bread, Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse and more.

In the late 1990s, the Klehms sold the tract to a residential development called The Woods of South Barrington. A portion was designated for commercial use, and in 2006 plans for The Arboretum of South Barrington were announced, paying homage to its roots.

The Klehm family emigrated from Germany to Arlington Heights, Illinois in 1852, where they started a nursery business, principally fruit trees. In the 1960s the Charles Klehm & Son Nursery moved to South Barrington, Illinois, where it operated until 2004 under the direction of fourth-generation nurseryman, Roy Klehm. Roy Klehm is not only known for growing great trees and shrubs, but is also known worldwide
